“Where does the name Semarca Come From?”
There once was a young boy named Gregg living in
Venezuela with his family while his father worked for Sun Oil company.
To transport the oil company’s workers from land to the off-shore
facilities, special boats called "launches" were leased from a
company named Semarca. The 40
foot aluminum boats were powered by two twin Jimmy Diesels which made them
swift and smooth. To 14 year old teenagers, these boats were way
cool. On
special occasions, the boys were allowed to drive these “fast, cool
launches” – an experience that had a profound impact on all of them.
It was on one of these trips that Gregg remembers declaring to his
friends that one day he would own his own company and name it after this boat
leasing company – Semarca.
On August 6, 1981, Gerald H.
Smith II (Gregg) fulfilled his dreams when The Semarca Corporation was
founded. Things have certainly changed over the years.
Back when the company first started, the databases were custom written
for each association and the hardware required to run the databases filled an
entire room! The software has
evolved over the years from COBOL to R:Base; then to FoxPro, and in 2000 a true
client/server product was developed.
The future of Semarca holds many
great things as well. The company
has recently released a package of web-based applications to be used in tandem
with the c/s products, and soon the entire software package will be completely
web-based. Semarca is constantly
researching and developing new products and methods so that we may serve our
clients as effectively as possible. Our
goal at The Semarca Corporation is to provide Associations with Management
Software that is fast, efficient, and very user friendly. We create
software that provides value to the organization; software that allows users
to be productive and have fun while using it. Semarca is committed to
providing impeccable technical support with outstanding response times.
